Company history

Goodyear Company History

In 1898 in Akron, Frank Seiberling founded the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company - which has been producing tires from the very beginning. The company's products quickly achieved success (including airships, balloons or aircraft tires). The innovation of the Goodyear brand is confirmed by its history - it was the research center established by it in Akron that was one of the first facilities of this type in the world. This is where, for example, the RunOnFlat tire technology was developed.

1957 is the opening of the so-called GICL (The Goodyear Innovation Center), i.e. the company's second research center and the first in Europe, in Colmar-Berg, Luxembourg. It is from the Luxembourg center that the award-winning AMT technology (i.e. the technology of automatic tire pressure maintenance) comes from.

The Goodyear brand was also present for a very long time in motorsport history, joining the elite group of tire manufacturers for F1 in 1964.

For the next 35 years, Goodyear actively developed racing tires technologically. In 1971, the company introduced slick tires, which became a permanent feature of Formula 1 and even became its symbol. Completely smooth tread, devoid of grooves and sipes, combined with a special adhesive mixture, ensured excellent adhesion on dry surfaces.

The high safety standard and excellent grip characteristic of the manufacturer have long been the basis of all races organized on Formula 1 tracks. It is also worth mentioning that it was this brand that first introduced a rain tire with a radial carcass and directional tread pattern in 1983.

Modern history is the presence of the brand in the LMP2 class of the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC), the European Le Mans Series from the 2021 season, the British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) and through a new media partnership with leading European sports broadcaster Eurosport for the Touring Car World Cup FIA (WTCR) and Pure ETCR, the first series of multi-brand all-electric touring cars (contract valid from the 2020 season).

Goodyear tires are produced in 46 factories in 21 countries, including Poland - in the Dębica tire factory, from where Goodyear tires are delivered to dozens of countries around the world.
